The Importance of Data Integrity: LIMS, Tools and Best Practices

Speaker

Abstract

The amount of data that is produced each day is mind boggling. Over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every single day, and this number continues to grow every single day. This year (2020) it is estimated that 1.7MB of data will be created every second for every person on Earth according to the Digital Information World Blog. In the analytical testing laboratory, we have entered a new age in the scale and complexity of data as well as the pace at which the data is generated. Today laboratories require secure, compliant Laboratory Information Management Systems and powerful tools for analysis and to extract both laboratory and business intelligence from their data. More and more organizations will begin feeding their LIMS as well as their unstructured data into a Data Lake. The key to making good decisions is having high quality data. This presentation will examine the importance of data integrity, along with the role of LIMS and other tools that can be used to help analytical laboratory professionals to produce, manage, analyze and maintain high quality data. We will also examine the impacts of poor data integrity with a few examples and understand what it means to the laboratory.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understanding the importance of Data Integrity, what it entails and how to achieve it

2. Learning how LIMS and laboratory automation tools can facilitate regulatory compliance and enforce data integrity

3. Understanding the potentially devastating ramifications when data integrity is not a priority and is not managed, maintained and supported.
