The physical exam of the pain patient
Daniel Ciampi de Andrade, Brasil

In this lecture DCA will present a brief description of the medical physical examination of a chronic pain patient. Emphasis will be made on the classification of the patient’s pain into one of the three main mechanistic descriptors of pain, namely: nociceptive, neuropathic or nociplastic. The main points of the physical examination that help classifying chronic pain into syndromes will be highlighted, such as aspects of the sensory examination in neuropathic pain and the basis of referred pain. The presentation will be illustrated by videos of a healthy volunteer in order to better depict the semiology maneuvers. The presentation will focus on physical examination points that are relevant to the pain area and are supported by scientific evidence and societal recommendations.
