What benefits does cannabidiol (CBD) have on cosmeceutical purposes, specifically sunscreen or wound healing? This is what a recent study published in Pharmaceuticals hopes to address as a team of researchers investigated the health impacts of using CBD for skin-related treatments. This study has the potential to help scientists, legislators, and the public better understand the health benefits of CBD, which could reduce the number of human-made products being used for skin treatments.
For the study, the researchers observed, analyzed, and documented the impacts of CBD being used as a skin treatment, specifically the side effects, safety, and cellular activity that responds to the CBD as a foreign agent. The time period of the CBD application was 24 hours, during which the researchers noted the concentration of CBD and the reactions that occurred accordingly. In the end, the researchers found that CBD concentrations between 0.625 to 2.5 µg/mL is safe for use as a skin treatment.
The study concludes, “Altogether, our findings confirm the promising potential of CBD, showing that it can be applied in various topical cosmeceutical products. However, further studies, including in vivo studies and clinical trials, should be conducted to confirm the safety and long-term effectiveness of CBD on the skin.”
While these findings are a step in the right direction regarding the use of CBD as a health remedy, the researchers emphasized how the time duration of 24 hours should be increased for future studies, noting that durations of 48 or 72 hours would be sufficient in determining more accurate results.
How will CBD help improve skin treatments in the coming years and decades? Only time will tell, and this is why we science!
As always, keep doing science & keep looking up!
