E-Cigarette Study Investigates Risks

WRITTEN BY: Abbie Arce

In the largest study of its kind, researchers examined data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The info was collected in 2016 from 400,000 participants from all 50 states. Residents complete the surveys which asked about their health-related risk behaviors and chronic health conditions.

Researchers found that most of the 66,795 people who reported ever having regularly used e-cigarettes were younger and with lower body weight. Younger people are attracted to the flavors, ease of obtaining and ease of hiding these devices.

In addition, vaping is often an attractive alternative to cigarettes because you may vape in many places that you would not be allowed to smoke.

The numbers also revealed a higher risk of stroke, heart attack, coronary artery disease, and angina and e-cigarette users.

The above video from the American Heart Association (AHA) gives the entities official statement on vaping devices and their use.
