Drug development is expensive. Taking into account costs of failed trials, the average drug costs $985 million to research, develop and reach US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. With these high costs, repurposing ‘old’ drugs for common and rare diseases is a great way to cut costs and shorten drug development timelines.
