Black Friday is known to be the epitome of US consumerism, and if one stops to think about how this can take a toll on the environment, it doesn't look good. However one company is prepared to turn that around. Patagonia is donating 100% of sales from Black Friday to grassroots organizations working to create positive change for the planet in their own backyards. Following their website, the company says "We're determined to use every means at our disposal to defend our world's climate, air, water and soil. In these divisive times, protecting what we all hold in common is more important than ever before."
This pledge is not new for Patagonia, as they've been pledging 1% of all sales to nonprofit environmental groups as a member of 1% for the PlanetĀ® since 1985. That's added up to $74 million in cash donations given directly to thousands of organizations working in local communities around the world. In addition, Patagonia has pledged to stick to the Paris climate agreement even if the US as a nation pulls out under Trump's guidance. Setting the example, this company is doing their part to kick climate change to the curb.
