In a new social phenomenon, strangers are going on blind dates wearing virtual reality (VR) equipment. Couples can enter a zombie apocalypse or jaunt through outer space, among other settings, during their unique meetup. If you've always wanted to get to know someone as a dinosaur or skeleton, nonhuman body types can be selected as well. These specialized outings are being offered and shared via a Facebook channel called "Virtually Dating."
Facebook also made a big investment in VR through the purchase of the Oculus platform in 2014. The social media giant now runs "Facebook Spaces" as well; live, interactive VR experiences that users can enjoy with and broadcast to their online friends.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said he expects really high-quality VR to take about a decade to evolve, but that his company plans to continue investing billions in the technology in the meantime.
