While there are new discoveries in genetics, precision medicine and immunotherapy for treating cancer, the experts that study cancer trends say that lifestyle and environmental factors should be considered more fully. As more people move around to different parts of the world certain cancers recede and others increase.
Factors such as pollution, diet and activity are also being scrutinized. Almost 50% of cancers can be traced to a combination of obesity, smoking and poor diet. Experts point out that mortality from lung cancers has declined, however it's not due just to better treatments, but to concerted efforts to change habits and educate people about the dangers of smoking.
