Abstract

How do we gain a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying complex behaviors occurring in complex and dynamic environments? Almost any answer to this question involves a multidisciplinary team of scientists from fields including, but not limited to, cognitive affective and motor neurosciences, ethology, bioengineering and biomechanics, psychology, data and computational sciences, artificial intelligence and ethics. However, there are many challenges to transforming a multidisciplinary group of collaborators into a transdisciplinary team with the ability to synthesize new methods and new thinking from the members’ knowledge. This panel brings together an expert on the science of team science with experts from fields with distinct perspectives on behavior from evolutionary biology to psychiatry to ethics to discuss these challenges and ways to move forward.
