Experience sampling methods (ESMs) are techniques used to evaluate subjective encounters and experiences in daily life. ESM is used for the treatment and the management of symptoms for patients with psychiatric disorders. More recently, somatic illnesses, disorders characterized by physical symptoms, such as pain and weakness, resulting in functional impairment, can also be treated with ESM.
