Hepatitis is a viral infection characterized by inflammation in the liver. Hepatitis screening is conducted by testing blood for antigen, foreign substances including viruses which invade the body, specific for hepatitis. Alternatively, antibody testing, which evaluates for antibodies produced in response to hepatitis, can determine if an individual has ever been infected.
