You may have heard of dissolving stitches. Perhaps you’ve even gotten them yourself. Still, many people have yet to hear about the new dissolving heart technology. In 2016 the FDA approved the most recent step in the stents evolution.
Stents are medical devices inserted into an artery, generally, after an angioplasty, that restores blood flow to the area. The stent does this by acting as a scaffolding. The scaffolding holds the artery open, and now they are dissolvable.
These devices provide the benefit of supporting the artery but dissolving after the critical 90 day period in which the risk of an arterial collapse is significantly reduced. This allows the vessel to return to its normal state where it dilates and contracts. This ability and regular movement of the artery is forever lost when metal stents are placed.
The video above, from Honor Health in Scottsdale Arizona, describes the device and its benefits in detail.
