Ants like to nest anywhere they possibly can to protect themselves from the elements. Whether that’s deep underground, inside of rotting wood, or in the ear canal of a 12-year-old girl, they’ll make do with wherever they can create a home.
Wait… did you say the ear canal of a 12-year-old girl? Why yes... I did.
In Gujarat, India, a 12-year-old girl by the name of Shreya Darji has reportedly been visiting the doctor’s office quite often to have large ants pull out of her ear canals. Doctors have used small cameras to examine her ears, and not one doctor can understand how the ants keep getting in there because there’s no evidence of eggs or a queen inside the girl’s ear canals.
“We have conducted all possible scans on the child including an MRI and CT scan but they are all normal. We cannot find any abnormality in her ears,” said Dr Jawahar Talsania, a local surgeon in the field. “We don’t believe the ants are laying eggs inside the ear as we've not spotted a queen ant inside. We are completely perplexed.”
Some reports suggest that thousands of ants have been removed, but it seems like an unlikely number. On the other hand, a video published to YouTube, recorded by the doctor performing the procedure, shows a few ants being pulled from the girl’s ears. An estimated 10 ants were pulled from her ears in that procedure alone.
The parents of the girl claim that about 10 live ants crawl out of her ears day in and day out. Despite the complications, the girl feels no pain from the ants, but did report some discomfort since the problems began in August of last year.
Despite the multiple attempts to remove the ants, more keep appearing. The child’s parents are concerned for her safety and hoping the issue resolves itself despite the fact that doctors have been unable to fix the problem in recent visits. As you could imagine, the issue causes problems for the girl in school, where she is often teased by classmates.
