The LabRoots Summer Textbook Scholarship Goes To…

LabRoots is excited to present the winner for the Summer Textbook Scholarship! Congratulations to Andrew Ly! Andrew, an undergraduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles, is working towards his degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics studying the roles of various proteins in infection by murine gammaherpesvirus-68 for use as a therapeutic gene delivery vector. After graduating from UCLA, Ly hopes to pursue a Ph.D and become an academic research professor where he can mentor others. Andrew was inspired to go into science, specifically microbiology, by his high school science teacher. The amazing and vibrant world that we can’t see without help from technology seems like science fiction but appeals to him because of how very real it actually is. Andrew is keen on contributing to the study of biological organisms (specifically microscopic ones) and their potential to be applied to the problems that face society. Aside from school, Andrew was a board member of UCLA's Circle K chapter and served as the Kiwanis Family Youth Chair, overseeing and coordinating service projects involving younger branches of the Kiwanis Service Family from elementary students to high schoolers. He is also a general member and past intern of Vietnamese Community Health at UCLA, an organization devoted to providing free medical screenings to underserved communities. As the winner of the LabRoots Summer Textbook scholarship, Andrew will be awarded $1000 for textbook costs to support him in his academic pursuits. LabRoots strongly encourages digital innovation to further scientific collaboration and learning for both students and professionals. Through this scholarship program, LabRoots wishes to encourage all students to seek an education in science and will help students work towards their educational goals. With the close of its spring scholarship, LabRoots is also opening up the application period for their Fall STEM Scholarship, awarding a worthy student $2,000. Interested students can apply here.
