Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS): is a California state licensed job. To obtain this job, one needs to take a 12-month post baccalaureate training program where students work side by side with licensed professionals in a biotech setting learning testing techniques in molecular diagnostics. This program involves a 32-hour training week and 8 hours in lecture. Students attend lecture for 2 semesters. At the end of the training year, students are eligible to take the ASCP national board exam for molecular biology and to apply for a Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license in California.
