Lymphatic filariasis is a tropical disease which impacts the lymphatic system. Patients with lymphatic filariasis present with enlargement of body parts, rendered though chronic swelling and skin/tissue thickening. Lymphatic filariasis is spread to humans through mosquitoes and can be latent for many years before symptoms are realized. Treatment for lymphatic filariasis includes chemotherapeutic regimens which can also be administered in a preventative role. Lymphatic filariasis is more commonly known as elephantiasis due to the appearance of those inflicted with the disease.
