Phosphatase and tensin homolog pseudogene 1 (PTENP1) is a pseudogene, a DNA sequence that looks similar to the PTEN gene but has been mutated and rendered inactive through evolutionary cycles. PTENP1 can serve as a substitute for PTEN exerting tumor suppressive functions.
