Radiopharmaceuticals used to diagnose illnesses, such as kidney or thyroid diseases, are administered in very low amounts which are safe for the body. When used to treat disease, such as cancer, the amount of radiation can be significant and may cause damage to healthy tissue leading to adverse events.
