A Gym For Survivors

Multiple studies show that exercising can aid in the recovery from cancer, but it's hard to get patients to the gym. They're tired and some are nervous about how they look during treatment. A new gym, set up specifically for these patients, is proving successful in the UK.

Launched by the charity Cancer United, the gym is located in Sussex, England. The classes are specific to certain types of cancer. Staff members are trained not only in fitness, but in different forms of cancer and its treatments and they tailor the work outs to each patient. Patients feel more comfortable being around others who know what they are going through and don't stare if someone has lost their hair or is underweight.
