These are exciting times to be a microbiologist with all the new options for rapid testing platforms and automated instrumentation. Making the move to an automated lab seems daunting, however. Once acquired, how do you validate these automated systems? How do you incorporate these technologies into your existing workflow? In this session we will discuss University of Kentucky’s voyage to validate and then implement an automated culture system and then optimize the existing processes with the goal of providing faster and more efficient organism identification and susceptibility test results.
Learning Objectives
- Describe some of the automated systems currently available in the clinical microbiology laboratory.
- Discuss options for incorporating automated culture systems into the workflow for clinical specimens such as blood and urine.
- Outline the steps for validating the automated culture systems to assure reliable results.
- Identify newer automated technologies available to improve the timeliness of organism identification and susceptibility testing.
Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
