Abstract
This presentation will explore the evolving landscape of cannabis rescheduling in the United States, providing an overview of its historical context, current legal status, and potential future implications. We will begin by examining the “pre-schedule” legal history of cannabis through its classification as a Schedule I substance in 1970. Then, we will review the congressional and administrative pathways that have been previously attempted for marijuana rescheduling and its current rescheduling efforts and status. Finally, we will consider the potential outcomes of successful rescheduling including its impact on the legality of medical and recreational marijuana, access to business banking access, and other operational challenges for cannabis business license holders.
