Abstract
Bacterial and viral infections produce a wide range of similar signs and symptoms leading often to the inappropriate use of antibiotics. Close to 2.8 million people in the United States get an antibiotic-resistant infection each year, and approximately 30% of antibiotic prescriptions are thought to be unnecessary. Inappropriate prescription rates and overuse have led to antibiotic resistance which has created a global health emergency that has shown to be responsible for approximately 700,000 deaths a year worldwide. By the year 2050, the number is expected to reach 10 million worldwide according to WHO. Biomarker technologies such as Procalcitonin appears to be a cost effective and safe remedy for this dilemma.
In this webinar, Dr. James F. Neuenschwander II, MD, FACEP, FASAM, will describe PCT-aided antibiotic stewardship, provide insights on why PCT is considered a catalyst and how Is PCT compared to other tests. He will also be sharing the economic benefits and value drivers of PCT testing that have the most impact.

Learning Objectives
  • Discuss PCT-aided antibiotic stewardship in sepsis and lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI)
  • Illustrate the impact of PCT on the emergency and ICU department decision making
  • Demonstrate the economic benefits of PCT.

Webinars will be available for unlimited on-demand viewing after live event.
